About the Club
The F Word in Medicine provides a safe, inclusive, and constructive environment to discuss gender-based issues in healthcare professions. The past several decades have seen a rise in medical school attendance and matriculation by women. However, female healthcare professionals face specific challenges during their education and practice including gender-based discrimination, micro-aggression and sexual harassment, and unequal opportunities for career development. Facing these everyday challenges alone negatively impacts both our professional and personal lives. The goal of The F Word in Medicine is to shed light these individual struggles. Using workshops, mentorship between members, facilitated discussions, and guest speakers, FIM aims to help healthcare professionals develop skills and strategies to address gender-based problems, which will play a role in creating superior environments for both learning and clinical practice. Over time, we hope to engage all students in healthcare professions in this dialogue to create a generation of leaders capable of recognizing and addressing gender-based issues.
